Hi, I’m Michelle
I use she/they pronouns.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who finds my purpose in life by helping others manage and navigate the intersectional nature of trauma, severe anxiety, neurodiversity, queerness, and disability/chronic illnesses.
These are difficult areas to navigate alone, and I am so honored to be able to help others with the knowledge, specialized training, and the authenticity of what lived experiences brings.
When I am not being a therapist, I am taking walks in nature, hanging out on Discord with found-family, playing video games, or writing for my next D&D session.
My Approach
I am a draw-it-out, props-using, lots-of-curiosity type of therapist. I tend to see things in patterns, or a part of a larger picture, and like to ask you many questions about your experience.
I use evidence-based approaches that introduce clients to biologically and neurologically focused interventions. Because I like to know the biology & neurology behind our feelings and behaviors (the “why”), I spend a lot of time with psychoeducation and empowering my clients with knowledge. For myself, and many people, knowing what is happening in our bodies or brains gives us some distance from - and curiosity towards! - the issue.
Your experiences & emotions are real. I am the type of therapist who is going to tell you that, and then provide you with realistic feedback about your options, which include tangible, concrete skills to manage. Even in the harder stuff, I would never ask you to do something I’ve never done before or wouldn’t be willing to do myself!
This is Samson
He is my trained service animal who has been my partner for 9 years. He is task-trained and maintains yearly certification through his program with Atlas Assistance Dogs and the standards of Assistance Dog International (ADI).
Before COVID, Samson met many clients in the office and on the college campus was a great ambassador for a sometimes scary-looking breed. Via telehealth, you wouldn’t even know he’s there…unless he decides to let out a signature grumble.
